Desires will always be there

Beginners are often worried about desires arising in their mind. Human mind is such that for most of the aspirants some or the other desire will always be there. So, that's not something to be worried about.

What matters more is the direction and the magnitude of those desires. If your desires take materialistic direction they will lead you to bondage. If your desires take spiritual direction then they lead you to liberation.

If your desires are materialistic and their magnitude is large they will cause more attachment. More the magnitude more the attachment. If your desires are spiritual and their magnitude is large that's a better situation. Such desires will make you detached quickly.

On the scale of desires materialistic and spiritual are two end points. Gradually you should travel from one end to the other. You may not reach the perfect spiritual end in this birth but you might reach a mid point that allows you to live a peaceful and happy life.
